Ping Fu of Geomagic shares knowledge at White House

President Obama invites CEOs of 50 innovative companies to share knowledge and insight on modernizing government

WASHINGTON, D.C., January 15, 2010 - Ping Fu, CEO of Geomagic, shared her insight on the transformative powers of technology with President Obama, senior White House staff, and other leading U.S. executives yesterday afternoon at the White House Forum on Modernizing Government.

The forum brought 50 private sector leaders to Washington to share business best practices and ideas on leveraging technology to streamline federal operations, improve customer service, and maximize technology return on investment. In addition to Fu, forum attendees included Sam Allen of Deere and Company, Steve Ballmer of Microsoft, John Chen of Sybase, Chris Hughes of Facebook, Shantanu Narayen of Adobe and John Riccitiello of Electronic Arts.

At the center of a revolution

Fu offered a unique perspective to the forum: Her company is pioneering 3D software that fundamentally changes the way products are designed, inspected and manufactured.

While 3D has taken center stage recently in entertainment and consumer arenas - from the record-breaking Avatar to 3D TV at CES - a more important 3D revolution is taking place in manufacturing and medical facilities around the world. Geomagic software, with its ability to erase the boundaries between physical and digital worlds, is at the center of this revolution.

Geomagic Studio software makes it easy and fast to transform 3D scan data of physical objects into accurate digital models that can be edited directly in popular computer-aided design programs such as Autodesk Inventor, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks and Siemens NX. Applications include ensuring the safe return of the NASA space shuttle, digital processes at Timberland that cut waste by 75 percent, and new appliances developed at Shriners Hospitals for Children to treat cleft palate, an application that won the "Rapid Technologies That Will Change the World" award from Desktop Engineering magazine.

Geomagic Qualify software enables fast, accurate, graphical comparisons between digital reference models and as-built parts for first-article inspection, production inspection, and supplier quality management. Companies such as Pratt & Whitney, Schneider Electric and Alcoa Howmet have used Geomagic Qualify to improve quality and dramatically reduce inspection time.

The entrepreneurial perspective

In addition to her perspectives on the changing world of manufacturing, Fu also represented chief executives of small- and medium-sized entrepreneurial companies that typically do not have a voice in Washington.

"I was honored to be invited to the forum and excited to attend," says Fu. "Entrepreneurs are typically too busy to be involved in politics; as a result, our opinions are not heard. This is a very technology-savvy administration and President Obama and his senior team are creating an unprecedented level of openness in government. I hope this administration will not only listen to the private sector, but provide funding and resources to help entrepreneurs create innovative products and services that improve all of our lives."
